ACTIVE TUNNELLING CONTRACT SUMMARY

JOB REF No. :- 259

JOB TITLE :- BRIDGE COURT (AUGERBORING)

CLIENT:- BBUSL

PROGRAMME DURATION:- 11 WEEKS

SCHEME SUMMARY

The scheme was required for UU, as part of their sewerage upgrade works, as existing foul drainage system was flooding & overflowing.
The works entailed installing a new rising main & pump chamber overflow drain (both 35m long) through a very narrow access road. Along with installing a new pump chamber (2m dia x 5m deep), valve chamber & associated man holes, minor drainage & service ducting.

SPECIALIST EQUIPMENT/ WORKS INVOLVED

Both the rising main & overflow drain was installed using an auger bore rig, set up within a 2.4m dia chamber in the high way.
The pump chamber & drive shaft chamber were both installed via caisson sinking technique, whilst excavating with clam shell grab.

Ductile iron backdrop, ductile pump pipe work  & valve installation were carried out by ATL.
The main works were carried out in a live carriage way under traffic lights & TM, which ATL installed & maintained.

Tarmac reinstatement was carried out on completion of the works which ATL also carried out.
Site supervision (Agent/engineer) which included setting out, site welfare & site office were also supplied & maintained by ATL to give a full Client package.

UNFORSEEN ISSUES OVER COME TO AID CLIENT

Pre- planning with client at design stage enabled a viable way forward to install rising main & over flow within a very tight access (i.e. open cut not viable).

No major unforeseen issues encountered throughout the scheme.
